Dog-friendly and kid-friendly tramps near Auckland are hard to come by making the Hunua Ranges a real gem. If you're living in East Auckland or travelling to Auckland from the Coromandel or the Bay of Plenty, the Hunua Ranges Regional Park is a must visit. There are heaps of options for day walks from 20 minutes to 3 hours. Map here.
The Suspension Bridge Loop is a good middle-distance option. A friendly tramper in the carpark recommended that we park at the start of the track where the suspension bridge is located and proceed clockwise. This turned out to be great advice. We tackled several hundred stairs going up and took in the pretty views, before proceeding down the unusual curves staircases to the open road and back to the car.
